Caprica – An Awesome SciFi Pilot

April 25, 2009 at 8:44 pm (TV, video)

video_reelI just finished watching Caprica (by the makers of Battlestar Galactica) an it was a wonderful pilot for the new series. Unlike BSG, it is not space-based, but rather based on the planet of Caprica and focuses on two particular families. I thought the directing, acting, production, music score, etc. was all just great.

The special effects for the prototype Cylon robot was particularly interesting, as it looked very realistic. I also loved the acting by Esai Morales (Joseph Adama) and Eric Stoltz (Daniel Graystone), and they both played off each other very well. I was a big fan of the show Jericho which Morales co-starred in, so it’s good to know he’ll be back on another of my soon-to-be favorite shows in 2010.

Now, Caprica will be airing on the SciFi Channel at some time in the near future, but if you can’t wait (as I did) you can order the DVD now from Amazon.com or other retailer for around $17.99. Definitely worth watching if you were a BSG fan, and worth checking out if you’re a SciFi fan in general.

Windows Mobile Software

April 21, 2009 at 2:48 pm (General, Off Topic)

cohosoft_avatar2If you own an Windows Mobile Smartphone or Pocket PC device, I suggest you check out Cohosoft.com. They started up about a year ago and are slowly building their catalog of products. I use their CohoExpense application to record my business expenses while on travel, and I’ve also beta tested their SuperWallet application for the last several months and it works quite well (especially the Desktop PC Companion application).

They just released NoteToSelf, which is designed to send quick email reminders to yourself. Although their software is inexpensive, it is of high quality.

Note, their software only runs on Windows Mobile OS devices, so it won’t work on Blackberrys or iPhones.

New Zune model to arrive soon?

April 18, 2009 at 7:25 am (Rumors)

There’s a lot of rumors and buzz on the Internet over a possible new Zune model called the Zune HD, which apparently will have a lot of cool features. See this link on Zune Thoughts for more details.

So, I guess the rumors of Microsoft dumping the Zune product line was just bunk, huh? :)

It’s nice to see Microsoft continuing to advance the Zune line with the latest technology. I would really love to see a web browser, however, I’m not sure how they will work out user input (keyboard?).
