PC Upgrade Converts Video Files Faster!

video_reelMy former PC had a Intel Core 2 Duo (1.66 GHz) processor which took about 1 hour to convert a 45-minute DVR-MS file to WMV format for my Zune (using DVRMSToolbox with FFMPEG and Windows Media Encoder 9). I recently upgraded to a Intel Quad 2 Core Processor (2.33 GHz) which now can convert that same video file in only 20 minutes! So going from 1 hour to 20 minutes is a great speed up, with all four core processor churning away at the conversion.

So, upgrading to a Quad processor is a definite benefit if you want your video files to convert faster! đŸ™‚

I capture Digital TV shows directly into a WMV file so saving having to do any conversions at all in order to load down into Zune. I use a Terratec TC card and their Home Cinema software that comes with it for this task. Can’t understand why MS can’t allow capture to Zune format directly in WMC. I guess it has to do with digital rights issues. Not sure if that facility exists in upcoming WMC in Windows 7? Can anybody answer this question?

I see you took my advice about the Quad Core when you were looking at the Mac Mini. I got one & its great for the prices you can get one for today. I still use Cucusoft for conversions, it’s not that expensive & lifetime upgrades. The ultimate converts any file to almost every device out there. There must be 40 – 50 different formats to choose from. 2 clicks and forget it. Once you use it you will never use anything else. Way too simple.
